NEW MOON CAFE

Home style breakfast and lunch restaurant.

Years Downtown:

1999-present

Little Known Fact:

The recipe for our legendary homemade blackberry jam was first implemented by Christine Profit, the original owner and founder of the New Moon Cafe back in 1999. We owe this delicious recipe, as well as most of the menu we still use today, to this wonderful woman!

Our Story:

The New Moon Cafe began as a dream, grew into a vision, and finally grew into a reality. To quote Christine, founder of New Moon, “The name represents beginnings, endings and fresh starts. This is the New Moon of my journey. All of us here have pushed our comfort zone a little further, learned to be more accountable and faced a few fears.”

I couldn’t have summed it up better myself! Since I took over New Moon in October of 2007, I have found that this restaurant is far more than just a place for people to come and eat. It has become part of the community in downtown Olympia, where regulars know each other’s names and wave as they pass each other on the street. I have seen total strangers share a table, and end up talking for hours!

This restaurant is about the people it serves, and it is that spirit of service that I have learned the most from. I see myself as more of a guardian than an owner, and my responsibility is to maintain the wonderful connection my restaurant has with its employees and its customers.

As Christine said, New Moon is a place to push your comfort zone, and to face a few fears. So at 22 years old, I jumped headfirst into what has ultimately become one of the most satisfying endeavors of my life! I am truly honored and humbled to be a steward of such a quintessential Olympia business. Now, nearly three years later, I am finding myself falling more and more in love with this restaurant, its unique and wonderful community of customers and this amazing city!

What I Love About Olympia:

Olympia is about community, about simplifying life and learning to appreciate the things that really matter. It warms my heart every time I walk by one of my regulars on the street, and have had them smile and wave as if we were best friends. That kind of warmth is what makes Olympia special. I am challenged, educated, inspired and humbled by those who walk through my doors.
